A case has been filed against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 10 others for the killing of an auto-rickshaw driver in the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area of Dhaka during the recent student movement.
Md. Abul Kalam, father of the victim, appealed to the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Farah Diba Sonda for filing the case. After evaluating the documents submitted before the court, the judge asked the officer-in-charge of Sher-e Bangla Nagar Police Station to register the complaint as a First Information Report (FIR), plaintiff’s lawyer Liton Mia said.
The accused include former Road Transport and Bridges Minister and AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former ICT State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak, former Law Minister Anisul Huq, Hasina’s adviser Salman F Rahman, former Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud, former State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat, former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, former Additional Inspector General of Police Harun-or-Rashid, former Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Habibur Rahman and Additional Joint Police Commissioner Biplab Kumar.
According to the case statement, the victim Shahabuddin was shot dead around 7:15 pm on August 5 by some unidentified members of the police as he left home to buy food for his family members.
Soon after being shot, the victim collapsed on the street. Later, people around him rescued him and took him to the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
This is the fifth case filed against Sheikh Hasina since her ouster. The other cases have been filed over murder, crimes against humanity and genocide and abduction.
