A local leader of the BNP, who was arrested on November 27 in a case filed over explosive act, died at Naogaon hospital on Wednesday morning.
The BNP man was identified as Matibul Islam, 60, an organiaing secretary of Najipur municipality unit BNP in Patnitala upazila of the district.
Party sources said that Matibul was arrested in a case filed under the Explosive Substances Act on November 27 and had been in jail since then.
Matibul had been undergoing treatment at the jail hospital since December 14 due to his chest pain.
The BNP leader was shifted to Naogaon 250-bed District Hospital on Wednesday morning as his condition had deteriorated.
Dr Tanjimul Haque, resident medical officer at the hospital, said Matibul died in the morning.
Meanwhile, the body will be handed over to his family after an autopsy.
