Ulkasemi hosts VLSITHON 2.0 award ceremony in AUST

The grand finale of the country’s largest VLSI competition, VLSITHON 2.0, concluded with great enthusiasm. The award ceremony was held at the Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology auditorium in Dhaka on Thursday, where six winning teams were honored.

A total of 235 young participants from 20 leading universities across the country competed in 82 teams in the two categories: RTL (Register Transfer Level) design and Analog design. In the final phase, three teams from each category were awarded the titles of Champion, First Runner-up, and Second Runner-up.

The event was organized by Ulkasemi, the country’s leading semiconductor company, in collaboration with the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) at Ahsanullah University and the IEEE Student Branch.

In the RTL Design category, the RUET Digital Dynamos team won the championship, while ASCII from BUET secured the first runner-up position and RUET 3idIOTs claimed the second runner-up title.

In the Analog Design category, the HeliKopter team emerged as the champions, Team Exponentials was the first runner-up, and ASCII took home the second runner-up award. The winning teams were awarded a prize of 300,000 Taka.

Ulkasemi’s CEO and President, Mohammad Enayetur Rahman, presented the prizes to the winners during the ceremony.

In his speech, the CEO said, “VLSITHON 2.0 has showcased the immense potential and skills of our young engineers in technology and innovation. Technology, especially Artificial Intelligence (AI), relies heavily on semiconductor chips. These chips are no longer just components, but a new form of power. The nations that control future technology will lead the world.”

He further mentioned, “The global semiconductor market is currently valued at $50 trillion, and it is expected to double by 2030. China has already announced plans to invest $47.5 billion to build a chip factory.”

“We are presented with a tremendous opportunity. Ulkasemi is committed to bringing the semiconductor industry in Bangladesh to international standards. We believe that by 2030, this sector can transform into a multi-billion-dollar market. With the right government and private sector support, the revenue from this industry could grow from $1 billion to $16 billion, generating new employment opportunities for our young engineers.”

The Chief Guest, Professor Dr. Mohammad Ashraful Haque, Vice Chancellor of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, stated, “Through VLSITHONE 2.0 organized by Ulkasemi, our young engineers have demonstrated exceptional innovative skills. This competition not only recognizes their technical expertise but also marks a significant step towards contributing to the future development of technology in Bangladesh. We are incredibly proud that Ulkasemi is helping our younger generation in advancing the country’s technology sector with new innovations.”
