Two Bangladeshi nationals have been killed in a road accident in the state of Michigan in the US.
The dead are Mahidul Islam Sujan, 35, and his father Nur Mia, 65. Their hometown is in the village of Buraiya in Sunamganj’s Chhatak Upazila.
Ashiq Rahman, a Michigan-based reporter, said the accident took place on Thursday afternoon, citing police.
Hamtramck Police Chief Jamil Al Taheri said: “Police were chasing down the passengers of a suspicious white car. As they tried to flee, their car hit Sujan’s car, which was standing at the intersection of Conant Road, where many Bangladeshis live.”
“The impact caused heavy damage to Sujan’s vehicle. He died in the car. His father, Nur, was rushed to the DMC Hospital in Detroit City and was declared dead upon arrival by the doctors.”
According to police, the body has been kept at the DMC Hospital for autopsy, and the driver of the car that caused the impact is being questioned.
Abdul Matin, Sujan’s father-in-law, said Sujan used to work in a bank in Bangladesh before going to the United States. He moved to Michigan four years ago after marrying an American citizen. Nur arrived in the US on a visitor’s visa on Sept 4.
According to the relatives of the dead, the bodies of the father and son will be sent to Sunamganj after the funeral.
