The mobile court has fined 5000 taka 75 thousand taka to each of the 15 fishermen caught while catching jatka in the joint operation of fisheries department and coast guard in Haimchar Meghna river of Chandpur.
Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Purvita Chakma conducted the mobile court at Upazila Parishad at 12 o’clock on Monday (February 26). Haimchar Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer (Additional Duty) Mahbub Rashid said this information on Tuesday (February 27) afternoon.
He said a joint operation was conducted in the Meghna river on the fifth day of the fourth phase of the special combing operation to protect Jatka. At this time 15 fishermen were arrested from Haimchar Katakhali launch ghat area. Their homes are in Chandpur Sadar and Matlab Uttar Upazila. At the same time, 35 charghera nets, 70 thousand meters of current nets and 3 fishing boats were seized from the opposite area of Charbhairavi Fish Ghat. The seized nets were burnt and destroyed.
Coast Guard Haimchar out post CC said in the joint operation. Mominur Rahman, other officials of Upazila Fisheries Office and Coast Guard members were present.
