National poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s 125th birth anniversary was celebrated at Shivalay. On this occasion, the day was celebrated by organizing various programs on the initiative of Manikganj district administration in Teota village of Shivalay, the birthplace of poet Nazrul and poet wife Pramila on Saturday.
On this day at 9 o’clock in the morning in Teota Zamindar’s premises, wreaths were placed on the portraits of the poet and poet’s wife, colorful rally, discussion meeting, hymns, ghazals and prizes were distributed. Besides, students of various educational institutions, leaders of Nazrul Premi-organization and common people participated in the rally organized by district and upazila administrators.
Sanjida Jasmine, Deputy Director of Manikganj Local Government was present as the chief guest. Shibaloy Upazila Executive Officer Belal Hossain presided over by Professor Dr. Niranjan Adhikari spoke as the keynote speaker.
Nazrul researcher, retired district education officer Mohammad Abdul Monnaf Khan, Miazan Kabir, Muslim Uddin Khan Majlish, Shyamal Kumar Sarkar, agriculturist Rafiqul Islam, Teota UP Chairman Mosharf Hossain and others also spoke.
Speakers on the occasion demanded the construction of Nazrul-Promila University, Nazrul Research Center, Museum in Teota in Shivalay, the memorial of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. In addition to this, they also demanded to preserve Teota Zamindar’s house according to the original design and to renovate the dilapidated pond ghat with a guide wall and to construct a walkway around the ghat.
