Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) has suspended the registration of Dr. Khan Md. Saiduzzaman, consultant of the United Hospital Ltd. (UHL), due to carelessness and negligence in the treatment, said a BMDC notification.
The BMDC issued the notification signed by its acting registrar Liaquat Hossain on May 7, 2024.
The circular said the action against Dr. Saiduzzaman, consultant of the Department of Respiratory Medicine of the hospital, was taken following an allegation filed by Mohaimen Mustafa of Dhanmondi of negligence in the treatment of his father.
An inquiry committee formed by the council interviewed both of them and found that despite being a consultant doctor, Saiduzzaman neither mention in his prescription that the patient had gall bladder cancer nor did he inform the relatives of the patients about it.
The council said this is undoubtedly a serious offense and it has been proved that there was substantial carelessness and negligence on the part of the doctor in the medical practice.
Against this backdrop, his registration (A-15952 Date of Registration: 05.05.1987) from BMDC was suspended for six months in line with section 23 (1) of the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council Act, 2010 (Act No. 61). The suspension took effect on May 8, 2024.
According to Section 22 (1) of the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council Act, 2010 (Act No. 61) during the said period of suspension of his registration, he cannot provide any kind of medical services anywhere as a doctor. He cannot also introduce himself as a doctor, said the BMDC notification.
