Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Saturday said the opposition BNP is behind Jamaat-e-Islami’s rally.
“The Jamaat-e-Islami party is being backed by its mentor BNP. This means the group is preparing for arson and vandalism,” he said at a rally organized by Dhaka Metropolitan North unit Awami League at Khilgaon.
The rally was held against the BNP-Jamaat’s conspiracy against the nation.
If BNP’s demands are met, Quader asked, then who will they hold dialogues with, since their demands include the resignation of Sheikh Hasina and a caretaker government.
“Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been talking nonstop,” Quader, the road transport and bridges minister added.
He also urged people to not get confused by Fakhrul’s remarks.
“If we want a peaceful environment in the country, the demand for a caretaker government, Sheikh Hasina’s resignation, and the dissolution of the parliament, must be removed from BNP’s head,” he added.
The Jamaat-e-Islami claims to have got permission to hold a rally at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) in Dhaka’s Ramna.
Ashraful Alam Emon, director of Jamaat Dhaka South’s publicity and media wing, claimed at midnight on Friday that the Dhaka Metropolitan Police has given the party permission to hold a rally there at 2pm on Saturday.
Jamaat’s Dhaka South hold the rally demanding the release of its amir, Dr Shafiqur Rahman, and other leaders; the establishment of a caretaker government system; and controlling price hikes.
