Brawl between Rab, police in plainclothes leave 4 injured in Feni

Four police personnel were injured after a brawl between members of Rab and cops in Feni last night.

Members of both forces were in plainclothes – and could not identify each other – at Parshuram upazila, police and Rab sources confirmed our Cumilla correspondent.

The clash happened around 8:00pm yesterday when the police team intercepted a private car carrying the Rab members at Dak Bungalow intersection area, they added.

Officer-in-Charge of Parshuram Police Station Saiful Islam termed the incident “a misunderstanding” and said the issue has been settled.

The injured police members are assistant sub-inspectors Rezaul Karim and Mohammad Ibrahim; constables Nur Nabi and Mahbub Hossain of the police station.

Rezaul and Nur Nabi were admitted to Upazila Health Complex and two others were given first aid.

The admitted patients, however, left the hospital around 5:00am today without discharge, Dr Abdul Khaleque, a physician of the hospital, said.

A sub-inspector of the police station claimed the police team signaled the car carrying Rab members in plainclothes. The Rab members got off the car and locked in altercation with the policemen who were also in plainclothes which later turned into a brawl, leaving four police members injured.

Squadron leader Abdullah Al Jaber Imran, a company commander of Rab-7 in Feni, said the Rab team was on a drive when the misunderstanding happened with the policed members.

“We have solved the problem,” he said.

Police high-ups on different occasions instructed not to run any team in plainclothes at police stations. In case of special drives, law enforcers can conduct plainclothes operations after informing high-ups but they have to keep their identity cards with them.
