The workshop was organized by the Institute of Public Health Nutrition (IPHN) in collaboration with the Office of the Civil Surgeon. Civil Surgeon Dr. Hasibur Rahman presided over it and Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Ghosh was the chief guest.
As a resource person, Department Head of Public Health Nutrition Institute of Dhaka Dr. Mahbub Arefin Rezanur and Zainal Abedin Titu and the medical officer of the Civil Surgeon office Dr. Abdullah Al Mamun gave a presentation on the importance, benefits of breast milk and the Breast Milk Substitute Act 2013.
Department Head of Public Health Nutrition Institute of Dhaka Dr. Mahbub Arefin Rezanur said, in our country, 65 percent of children drink mother’s milk and 35 percent are outside of mother’s milk. The government also wants to ensure this. For this reason, emphasis is placed on creating awareness, not advertising powdered milk, not giving gifts to any doctor, and taking legal action against violators. Legal action will be taken if powder milk advertisement is displayed in any business establishment including Taina Pharmacy or Confectionery only. Dr. Civil Surgeon. Md. Hasibur Rahman said, people from all walks of life should come forward in addition to the health department to create awareness at the grassroots level. Otherwise, it is impossible to cover 100% of mother’s milk. That is why we are holding an awareness meeting.
40 people from various professions including doctors, nurses, journalists, clinic owners participated in it.
