The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) has approved a proposal of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division to import a second cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for the current year from the international spot market with per MMBtu costing at $16.5.
After six months suspension against the backdrop of price hike in the global market, the government resumed the import of LNG.
Japanese company JERA Co Inc has been selected to supply 33.60 lakh MMBtu LNG after as it won the contract.
Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company Limited (RPGCL), a subsidiary of state-owned Petrobangla, had invited the bid to import the bulk LNG.
A virtual meeting of the CCGP, presided over by finance minister AHM Mustafa Kamala on the day approved the proposal along with some other proposals of different ministries.
Additional secretary Sayeed Mahbub Khan of the cabinet division revealed outcomes of the meeting in an online briefing.
On February 1, French company Total Energies won the current year’s first supply bid quoting $19.74 MMBtu.
The government is likely to import 10 more LNG cargos in the current year.
Mahbub Khan said the committee approved five more proposals including two from the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) for procuring 1.10 crore litres of soyabean oil and 8,000 metric tons (MT) of lentil.
City Edible Oils will supply the oil at Tk 174.5 per liter while a Turkey company will supply the lentil at Tk 91.8 per kg.
The committee approved two proposals from the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation.
One of them is procurement of 20,000 MT of phosphoric acid to be supplied by M/s Sun International FZE of United Arab Emirates at Tk 119.49 crore through its local agent M/s Agro Industrial Input, Dhaka.
The other is procuring 25,000 MT of rock phosphate to be supplied by Wilson International Trading, Malaysia through its local agent Agro Industrial Input, Dhaka, at Tk 88.6 crore. The committee also approved a proposal from the Local Government Engineering Department for appointment of a joint-venture of M.M. Builders Engineers Ltd and Podder Enterprise for construction of 730-metre bridge over the Khairabad River in Jhalakati at Tk 123.9 crore.
