Hundreds of domestic cattle head rearing in the rural areas of all the seven upazilas of the district, specially in the char areas is boosting economic development for the last few years with the assistance of the animal resource department.
The cattle farmers, cutting the poverty rate in the district, have started changing socio-economic conditions and educating their children. It also plays a crucial role in removing the existing protein deficiency.
This correspondent was astonished to know and observed physically that most of the housewives of the char area of Harirampur, Daulatpur and Shibalaya upazilas work hard for oxen rearing at their houses for selling during the holy Eid-ul -Azha. A number of farmers said their women take necessary care of their cattle heads regularly and work hard to change their luck.
Union Parishad Member of Lesraganj Md. Bablu Pramanik of Harirampur upazila said hundreds of farmers of char areas rear the cattle heads at their houses for selling during the Eid-ul-Azha every year which is considered as the extra income. Besides, some farmers have been rearing cows to produce milk.
Headmaster Azimnagar High School Chowdhury Aulad said the people of vast char areas of Harirampur Upazila, specially the people of Ashrayan Project have chosen cattle rearing as their profession, adding that the people who are living by the side of the roads and khas lands are dependent on cattle rearing.
Dr. Rakibul Islam, District Animal Resource Officer said hundreds of farmers have started mini cattle farms with their initiative in the district. Besides there are some big cattle farms in the district and many others small farmers rear cattle for selling during the holy Eid-Ul – Azha.
The Animal Resource Department sources said they give necessary suggestions to the cattle farmers to develop their domestic farms. There are about 115 listed cattle farms in the district including some big one.
