Chittagong mayor’s long-term action plan for drainage system

Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation (CHSIC) Rezaul Karim Chowdhury has directed the engineering department to prepare short and long-term action plans for further development of the city’s drainage system. He gave this instruction at the meeting held at the temporary office of Nagar Bhawan at Tiger Pass yesterday.

Mayor said, record amount of rain, torrential water, tides and unfinished projects – all in all, Chittagong is like Bandarban and Satkania. Water has also risen in the area. We are delivering food to the homes of water stranded people. People are suffering. We are working to normalize the situation as soon as possible

Several councilors requested the city mayor to urge the CDA to complete the drainage project at the earliest. The councilors said that the CDA should have involved the people’s representatives in the flood mitigation project and taken their advice as they have a better understanding of the nature of their respective areas. It is because this is not done that waterlogging projects are failing to protect the public interest.
