Commercial buffalo farm developed in Hili

A buffalo farm has been developed commercially for the first time in Dinajpur’s Hili. Buffaloes from different countries including Australia and India are being fattened in the farm on the occasion of sacrifice. Buffalo farming is very profitable. A portion of the protein comes from this sector. Hakimpur Upazila Livestock Officer said that anyone can easily become self-sufficient through the farm.

Sumon Miah developed the farm called Ma Hajera Bibi Agro at Camp Patti on the Hili border. 138 buffaloes are being fattened in the farm for sacrifice. Among them, a buffalo called Bulldozer weighs 1,300 kg. And the weight of another named Big Boss is 1 thousand 100 kg. The price of two buffaloes has been estimated at 5 to 5.5 lakh taka. If the buffaloes are not imported illegally from India, the farmer hopes to make a good profit.

Yusuf Ali, who came to see the buffaloes at the farm, said, “We came from Rajshahi to Hili to buy buffaloes.” I heard that a large buffalo farm has been established in Hili. If the bargain is agreed, then I will buy two or four buffaloes.’

Suman Mia, a farmer, said, “I was very interested in animal husbandry from my childhood. So I started rearing cows and goats without doing a job or business. Due to losses in the cow farm, I came out of it and started a buffalo farm. Diseases of buffaloes are very less. Due to this, the amount of damage is less. Due to the illegal arrival of cows from India during Eid-Ul Azha, good prices are not available. For this reason I have farmed buffaloes. However, the price of cow feed has increased the cost of production. But if the government stops the import of cows and buffaloes from India, then we will get good prices.

Hakimpur Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. Nashrin Khatun said, “A buffalo farm has been developed commercially for the first time in Hili. The farm is regularly inspected by the Animal Husbandry Department. All kinds of advice are being given to farmers. Advising on how to fatten buffaloes. Upazila Livestock Department is providing all kinds of support to expand the farm. If someone else wants to build a buffalo farm, all kinds of cooperation will be provided.
