Health authorities in Bangladesh have registered 18 more deaths and 617 more infections from Covid-19 across the country in last 24 hours to Sunday morning.
With the latest figures, the country’s total Covid-199 death toll now stands at 27,573 while the number of caseload has reached 1557,964 so far, according to the daily handout issued by the Director General of Health Services (DGHS).
The fresh cases were detected after testing 21,246 samples which lowered the daily case positivity rate to 2.90 percent from Saturday’s 3.43 percent while the total positivity rate stands at 15.91 percent.
However, the mortality rate remained static at 1.77 per cent.
The recovery rate slightly increased to 97.48 per cent with the recovery of 1,112 more patients during the 24-hour period, the DGHS added
So far, 1518,754 people have recovered from the deadly virus infections.
Among the 18 deceased, nine were men and nine were women. Of them, one was under 10, two between 31-40, five between 41-50, five between 51-60 and five were above 60 years old, added the release.
Off them, seven each died in Dhaka and Chattogram divisions, and two each died in Khulna and Rajshahi divisions.
The Covid-19 victims’ gender breakdown shows that 17,692 of the total deceased across the country were men and 9,881 were women.
The country’s maiden cases were reported on 8 March last year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
