Health authorities in Bangladesh have registered 204 more deaths and 8,489 new infections from Covid-19 in last 24 hours to Saturday morning.
With the latest figures, the death tally reached 17,669 and caseload climed to 1092,411, according to the daily handout issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The fresh cases were detected after testing 29,214 samples in 627 labs across the country during the period which took the positivity rate to 29.06 percent from Friday’s 28.96 percent.
However, the fatality rate remained unchanged at 1.61percent during the period.
Also, 8,820 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the last 24 hours, with an 84.51 percent recovery rate.
The total number of recoveries now stands at 9,23,163 and the recovery rate at 84.51 percent.
Among the 204 deceased, 125 were men and 79 were women. Of them, two were between 11-20 years old, five were within 21-30, 12 between 31-40, 25 between 41-50, 58 between 51-60 and 102 were above 60 years old, added the release.
Meanwhile, Dhaka division reported this year’s highest single day deaths with 82 people died in the capital.
Moreover, 49 people died in Khulna, 32 in Chattogram, 20 in Rajshahi, 10 in Rangpur, five in Barishal, four in Mymensingh and two died in Sylhet division.
Bangladesh logged 187 deaths and 12,148 fresh cases on Friday.
The country’s maiden cases were reported on 8 March last year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
