Bangladesh has experienced an alarming growth in the number of Covid-19 cases as 3,554 people were diagnosed with the disease in the last 24 hours.
This is the highest number of infections in a single day since June, 2020, almost 9 months ago when the country saw 4,019 cases.
The death of another 18 people across the country in 24 hours was also confirmed. The death toll now stands at 8,738 and the death rate is 1.52%.
Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) confirmed the latest development through a press release on Tuesday afternoon.
In the last 24 hours, 1,835 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the same period, raising the total number of recoveries to 525,994 with 91.12 percent recovery rate, the release added.
Meanwhile, 25,954 samples were tested in 219 labs across the country in the past 24 hours. A total of 44,60,184 samples have been tested in the country so far.
The rate of infection also rises significantly as 13.69% of the tested population came out positive.
So far, 577,241 people have been infected by the novel coronavirus in Bangladesh.
