Daughter’s Harrasment: Two BCL activists, another arrested for attack on protester

Members of the Rapid Action Battalion arrested three people, including two activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League, student wing of the ruling Awami League, on charges of beating a man who protested at the harassment of his college-going daughter.

The arrestees are Md Farhad, 27, son of late Entaz Ali, and his brother Akher Ali, 32, and Irfan Khan alias Miraj, 23, son of Yusuf Khan, of Meherchondi area in Rajshahi city.

Earlier, at a press conference on Wednesday, the victim Nil Madhab Saha alleged that a group of youths carried out an attack on his parlour at Rajshahi University railway station on Friday evening,

He also said that the youths beat him with a hammer and stabbed him with a knife, as he protested at the harassment of his college-going daughter.

He said that he needed twelve stitches on the head and was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for two days.

Madhab, president of Matihar Thana unit Krishak League, alleged that he went to three police stations following the incident but none of them agreed to accept his case.

Nil Madhab Saha told New Age on Thursday that the railway police contacted him on Wednesday night and recorded his case.

Gopal Karmakar, officer-in-charge of the railway police station, told New Age that Nil Madhab Saha filed a case with the police station accusing eight people, including Ruhul Amin, vice-president of the BCL Rajshahi city unit, on Wednesday night.

RAB-5 captain Lieutenant Colonel Riyaz Shahriar told New Age that they started a shadow investigation into the incident and conducted a drive based on the intelligence information in Somsher crossing area of Meherchandi Purbapara village and arrested the three accused.

The RAB official said that they were trying to arrest the remaining accused.
