Police said investigation is underway to find out whether cricketer Shakib Al Hasan is involved with the gold business of Rabiul Islam Apon alias Arav Khan in Dubai, a fugitive accused in a murder case.
“Shakib Al Hasan will be interrogated for the purpose of the investigation. Apart from cricketer Shakib Al Hasan, other people from Bangladesh who were present at the inauguration of Arav Khan’s jewellery shop in Dubai are also being investigated,” said Harun-or-Rashid, chief of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Friday.
Detectives are also looking into whether anyone from Bangladesh is involved with Arav Khan’s business in Dubai, said the official.
“In the meantime, the chargesheet over the murder case of police inspector Mamun Emran Khan has been submitted. Still, the investigating officers are keeping track of the whereabouts of the accused,” he added.
“By reviewing various media sources, including social media, we came to know that this Arav Khan is Rabiul Islam. Besides, he has assumed different names at different times,” he noted.
Arav Khan, whose real name is Rabiul Islam alias Apon alias Shohag alias Hridoy, a fugitive accused in a number of cases, including one filed over the murder of Special Branch Inspector Md Mamun Emran Khan in 2018.
After the murder, Rabiul fled to India and secured an Indian passport under the name of Arav Khan, and went to Dubai.
Since February, Arav Khan also posted videos of several cricket stars from England, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan and UAE, who were supposedly invited to the event.
