Two more metro rail stations — Dhaka University and Bijoy Sarani — are now open for commuters today.
The stations’ doors were opened for passengers from 8am on Wednesday (December 13).
With this, the train now stops at Uttara North, Uttara Centre, Uttara South, Pallabi, Mirpur-10, Mirpur-11, Kazipara, Shewrapara, Agargaon, Bijoy Sarani, Farmgate, Dhaka University, Bangladesh Secretariat and Motijheel stations.
“Dhaka University and Bijoy Sarani stations of the metro rail are ready for operation and now open for the city commuters,” Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) MAN Siddique told media while opening the stations.
He said the duration of metro services on the Agargaon-Motijheel section will remain the same.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Agargaon-Motijheel section of the metro rail service on November 4, after launching the Uttara-Agargaon section on December 28 last year.
Three of the seven stations on Agargaon-Motijheel route– Farmgate, Bangladesh Secretariat (Press Club) and Motijheel– were opened on November 4.
After opening of Dhaka University and Bijoy Sarani stations, commuters will be able to use a total of five stations on Agargaon-Motijheel section.
