DNCC mayor warns of stern action if posters found covering street art

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md Atiqul Islam has warned of stern action if posters are found covering up authentic street art on the city’s walls.

He was speaking at an event showcasing street art at the Mohakhali Flyover in the capital on Monday.

Addressing those who put posters on street art or murals, Atiqul said, “We do a lot to beautify our city with street art. However, it’s disheartening to see that the artwork is covered with posters after a few days. I don’t want to see any posters on the beautiful street art in Mohakhali.”

“Anyone putting up posters will face strict consequences. No one has the right to deface our city with posters after we’ve worked so hard to create such beautiful artwork. Those who harm the environment will be held accountable,” said the mayor.

“We want a healthy, vibrant, and modern Dhaka. During Victory Month, let’s remember the freedom fighters who didn’t fight for cars, houses, or wealth but solely for the freedom of our country. They sacrificed their lives for a clean and orderly Bangladesh,” said Atiqul.

“With elections approaching, let’s not cover Dhaka city with posters. Why can’t we run a digital campaign in Smart Bangladesh? The Election Commission has already issued guidelines. I urge everyone not to put up posters without designated spaces. The city won’t prosper if we cover it with posters everywhere,” he added.

DNCC in collaboration with Berger Paints Bangladesh has started the street art event on Mohakhali flyover. The street art of the entire flyover will be completed by March.

Rupali Chowdhury, managing director of Berger Paints Bangladesh Ltd spoke at the event, among others.
