Drive against terrorists to continue: Hasan

Information and Broadcasting Minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud today said ongoing drive against terrorists will continue until the last one is eliminated.

The miscreants and terrorists who attacked the people and burned down public transports in the name of political movement are enemies of the country, he said while addressing a seminar at Jatiya Press Club here.

‘Brigade 71’ organized the seminar titled ‘Politics of fanatics and anti-liberation forces and our duties.’

Former Appellate Division Judge Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik addressed the seminar as special guest.

Dr Hasan said Bangabandhu had called to form resistance committee in every ward in 1971. Now it is the time for forming same resistance committees in every area against the miscreants and arsonists, he said.

The minister said some are raising question over the arrests of terrorists. But, burning down public transports could not be a programme of a political party, he said.

BNP workers killed a cop, damaged hospitals, burnt down 19 ambulances and attacked journalists, he said, adding it is the responsibility of people to resist the culprits.

He urged the leaders and workers of Brigade 71 to create awareness among the people against the miscreants and arsonists.

Hasan Mahmud said the Awami League government extended all support to BNP to hold political programmes. But, BNP, while was in power, tried to eliminate Awami League along with Sheikh Hasina.

In the heinous grenade attack on August 21, 2004, BNP killed as many as 22 leaders and workers of Awami League and injured about 500, he recalled.

Senior Awami League leaders Shah AMS Kibria and Ahsanullah Master were also murdered by BNP terrorists, he said adding many rallies came under their attack in different parts of the country, killing and injuring scores of leaders and workers of Awami League.

Convenor of the organization Freedom Fighter Razzakul Haider Chowdhury was in the chair while leaders of the Brigade 71 Mostafa Hossain, lawyer Abdul Nur Dulal, journalists’ leader Quddus Affrad, journalist Mahidul Islam Raju, Barrister Soumitra Sarder and leaders of Brigade 71 Mohammad Mohiuddin, Mosharraf Hossain, Ataur Rahman, Shahidullah and Shamim Akther Chowdhury were among others, who took part in the discussion.
