Dhaka University (DU) on Saturday held the admission test of the ‘Gha’ unit under the Faculty of Social Science for the 2021-22 academic session.
The test was held at designated examination centres across the eight divisions of the country. The test began at 11am for a duration of one-and-a-half hours.
“This year, we decided to hold the exams in all eight divisions of the country to minimise the sufferings of the candidates and their parents,” said DU vice-chancellor Prof Akhtaruzzaman after visiting an exam center of Social science faculty building.
“Social Science faculty dean Prof. Dr. Zia Rahman coordinating the unit exam and vice-chancellors of the respective universities are helping us in this regard. I was told that the exams were held smoothly,” he said.
Asked about QS University ranking position, he said, “We have no attention on ranking. We want to improve the quality of education, expand the field of basic research and the parameters of ranking in the international arena like research, foreign students, foreign teachers, the overall learning environment, the quality of life of students and we need to address it soon.”
He said, “If we can build a university in the light of all these indicators, then the place of our expectations in the international arena will be clearer. It is very difficult to expect good ranking position improving the parameters that are used for ranking.”
59 students are competing for every seat of social science faculty as 78,045 students have applied for 1,337 seats in ‘Gha’ unit under the faculty of Social Science.
‘Gha’ unit exam is a group changing exam in which students of all groups (Science, Commerce and Arts) can participate.
