Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Bangalee Hindu community, will be celebrated at 289 mandaps in five upazilas and five Pourashavas in the district this year.
A preparatory meeting was held in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) office Wednesday for celebration of the Durga Puja in a peaceful manner.
Deputy Commissioner (acting) Mohiuddin Jahangir presided over the meeting while Major Reza of Joypurhat Army Camp, Superintendent of Police Abdul Wahab, Civil Surgeon Dr. Ruhul Amin, President of Joypurhat District Puja Udjapan Parishad Advocate Hrishikesh Sarkar, Convener of District Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikkyo Parishad Advocate Nandakishore Agarwala, were present, among others.
Durga puja will begin on October 9 and end on October 12 with immersion of the idols.
Advocate Hrishikesh Sarkar, president of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad, Joypurhat district unit said, puja will be held in 113 mandaps in Sadar upazila 23 in Kalai, 39 in Khetlal, 38 in Akkelpur and 76 in Panchbibi upazila.
Deputy Commissioner (acting) said all kind of administrative measures will be taken to organize Durga Puja in a festive atmosphere.
