The Eastern University (EU) Moot Court Society has qualified for the International Rounds of the Monroe E Price Media Law Moot Court Competition 2024-25.
The contest will be held from April 21 to April 25 at the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights under the law faculty of the University of Oxford in England.
The EUMCS team, the only representative from Bangladesh, consists of Riasat Ajim, Raisha Chowdhury, Md Nazib Ferdous, and Intia Afroz, says a press release.
The competition, which started its journey in 2008, is one of the most respected global mooting competitions. It provides a platform for students to debate and explore legal issues related to freedom of expression and international law.
It is named after Professor Monroe E Price, founder of the programme in the Comparative Media Law and Policy (PCMLP) at the Oxford University.
The EU team took part at the 15th Annual South Asian Regional Rounds of Competition and secured its place in the international rounds.
The South Asian round, which took place virtually from February 6 to 9, 2025, was hosted by the National Law University (NLU), Delhi, in collaboration with the Centre for Communication Governance at the NLU, Delhi, and the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights, Faculty of Law, University of Oxford.
Notably, Eastern University is the second team ever from Bangladesh to make it to the International Rounds.
The University of Dhaka was the first team.
