
Eastern University successfully qualified for the international rounds of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, following a historic 9th edition of the Bangladesh Qualifying Rounds.
This year’s national round witnessed an unprecedented participation of 44 law schools from across the country, highlighting the growing enthusiasm for mooting and legal advocacy in Bangladesh. Among the nine editions of the Bangladesh Qualifying Rounds, Eastern University’s qualification marks its sixth advancement to the international rounds, having previously competed three times in person and twice online. This year the team will represent Bangladesh in person for the fourth time in Washington, D.C., from March 29 to April 5, 2025.
In this competition, Eastern University advanced to the ‘Advanced Rounds’ as the top ranked team in the ‘Preliminary Rounds.’ The team—comprising MahirChowdhury, FarihaNosheen, and SakibKhondoker—demonstrating outstanding legal acumen, bagged the runners-up trophy in the national rounds. Adding to this remarkable success, MahirChowdhury, one of the two oralists of the Eastern University team, was awarded the most prestigious title of ‘Best Mooter’ for achieving the highest individual oralist score among 88 oralists in the preliminary rounds—an outstanding feat that underscores his exceptional advocacy skills.
This achievement reflects the commitment of Eastern University’s Faculty of Law and the Eastern University Moot Court Society (EUMCS) to fostering legal excellence and promoting rigorous academic inquiry among the students. The Jessup Competition is the largest and most renowned moot court competition for law students across the globe otherwise known as the “World Cup of Mooting.” Jessup Bangladesh, in association ILSA Bangladesh Chapter, Hearth Bangladesh and AIUB, organized the Bangladesh national qualifying rounds of Jessup for the 9th successive year.
