Eid Bazaar: Clothes are being sold at 5/6 times higher prices

Even a month ago, the price of clothes was 2000 to 2200 taka, now the price is 6000 taka. From three-piece to children’s clothes, the prices are 4/5 times higher in the shops. In view of the Eid market, the cloth shop traders are grabbing several times more prices from the buyers. This is what the buyers said. And the sellers said, the price of everything is extra, we sell it at a profit from the price we bought it from Dhaka. And the administration says market monitoring will be done.

Roksana Akhtar, Hamida Begum, who came from Khurushkul Kuliapara to do Eid marketing, said that a month ago we did marketing for a small family event, then the clothes which were sold for 2 thousand or 2200 taka, now the price of that cloth is 6 thousand taka. Especially children’s clothes are 5/6 times more expensive in the shops. The sellers have increased the price of all clothes including children’s clothes, t-shirts, one-pieces. We have visited several shops in Salam Market, Super Mark, Firoz Mark, the price of clothes in the shops this Eid is several times higher than other years.

Manwara Begum, Hajera Khatun, Umm Kulsoom of PMkhali Nayapara area and many others said, Eid is not much left, so they come to buy something for their children and themselves. Even if they don’t have knives or guns in their hands, they are committing open robbery. The saree which was 1500 taka 2 months ago is now saying 5 thousand taka. Besides, burqa sellers are keeping the highest prices in shops, they used to sell a good quality burqa for 1500 to 2000 taka. They are not giving that burka now for 4 and a half thousand taka. Actually, what is happening in our country, is there no control here, everything is in the hands of businessmen. They charge whatever price they want, nobody cares.

In the evening of March 28, we talked to Abu Hanif, a resident of Walukia Palang, Ukhia, in the Firozha market of Bata Road in the city. In the context of the talk, he said, I came to the market with a budget of 30 thousand taka for 4 members of the family. After spending 30 thousand rupees, not even half of the marketing was done. Now again brought money from Bikash. He said, I did not understand the price of clothes in the country before.

Nashir Uddin Bipu, a musician from Baharchhara area of Cox’s Bazar, expressed his anger on his Facebook status and wrote, “When the prices of melons, fish and curry go up, everyone shouts and speaks against the government, but there is no word against the fact that some traders of Satkaniya Lohagara in Cox’s Bazar are looting people like this in front of the Eid market. someone He demanded immediate action against dishonest cloth traders.

In this regard, Abdul Haque, the businessman of Salam Market in Cox’s Bazar, Abshar Uddin, Shah Alam, Bashirul Islam of Firozha Market said, “You know that the price of everything in the country is high now.” And we don’t make clothes, we buy clothes from Dhaka and Chittagong and sell them at a small profit. There is nothing for us to do here. At that time, some businessmen also said that many individuals and institutions including Cox’s Bazar district administration, municipality have to pay regular subscription.

In this regard, Cox’s Bazar Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Vibhishan Kanti Das said, “We have received the news that many cloth shopkeepers are charging extra prices in view of the Eid market. After receiving the permission of the District Commissioner, market monitoring will be done very soon and action will be taken against all those shopkeepers.
