
Eastern University hosted a discussion session at Rezakul Haider Hall to observe International Mother Language Day.
The event focused on the language movement and the heritage of Bengali culture. The session was chaired by Professor Md. Shamsul Huda, Treasurer of Eastern University. The special guest was Lion Abdus Salam Chowdhury, the patron of the Eastern University Shaheed Minar. Dr. Abul Bashar Khan, Registrar of Eastern University, delivered the welcome address.
Additional speeches were given by Professor Dr. Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology; A.B.M. Imdadul Haque Khan, Dean of the Faculty of Law; and Dr. Abu Bin Ihsan, Chairperson of the Department of Pharmacy. They emphasized the importance of Mother Language Day, the cultural and historical significance of the Bengali language, and the promotion of linguistic diversity and unity. The event was moderated by KM Monirul Islam, Deputy Director of Student Affairs and Career Services.
Earlier, a morning procession took place, leading to the ‘Shaheed Minar’ on campus, where flowers were placed in honor of the language martyrs, followed by prayers for their souls. On this day, the university’s teachers, students, and staff came together to remember the martyrs by offering flowers at the Shaheed Minar.
