Evaly, a local e-commerce marketplace, has expressed interest in investing in local startups worth Tk 2 to 5 crore under the ‘Bangabandhu Innovation Grant-2021′ or BIG, said a press release on Thursday.
The investment initiative will begin operations on June 12.
According to release, BIG is launching in Bangladesh for the first time, with 65 startups from home and abroad. Evaly.com.bd is one of the event’s sponsors.
State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak recently praised local technology companies including Evaly. Speaking at a press conference organized by BIG, Palak said, “In today’s Covid tragedy, entrepreneurs are offering services to people’s homes. Startups like Evaly have set a precedent for success. They have recently stated that they will invest Tk 5 crore. By registering in Silicon Valley, Walton has also crossed the country’s boundary. Large corporations are now interested in making angel investments. Every high-tech park in the country is providing free co-working space for six months to help startups grow. Startup Bangladesh is establishing an entrepreneurial campus to train young people from all around the country to become entrepreneurs. During the Corona period, we saw new innovations play a crucial role in developing a self-sufficient Bangladesh.”
Expressing interest in investing Tk 2 to 5 crore in local startups, Rassel further said “Bangladeshi startups have a lot of potentials. In the country’s technological sector, it has considerable potential. Entrepreneurs that started in this field are also enjoying success. This prospective area is also receiving a lot of attention from the government. It is quite tough to grow up without financial support. You know, funding is the parameter of a good startup. This funding will lure foreign interest only when local investors come forward. We’ve already stated that we’ll invest between Tk 2 and Tk 5 crore in startups where there are investment prospects. For the time being, we’ll use the BIG. Its scope will be broadened in the future.”
It is mentionable that Evaly has recently acquired Flight Expert, a popular online marketplace for travel and air ticketing.
