Fakhrul, South Korean envoy discusses ways to enhance economic cooperation

South Korean Ambassador in Dhaka Park Young-sik met with BNP Secretary General on Tuesday and discussed the scope for enhancing economic cooperation and investment in Bangladesh.

The hour-long meeting, which began around 4 PM, was held at the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office.

BNP Standing Committee Member Abdul Moyeen Khan, Chairperson Advisory Council member Tajvirul Islam, and Organising Secretary Shama Obed were present at the meeting.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, Dr Moyeen said, “Bangladesh’s economic cooperation and investment with Korea have gained importance in the discussion.”

He mentioned that they discussed the current situation in Bangladesh and the recent student-led mass movement. “We also talked about the changes that have taken place in Bangladesh.”

“Over the past 17 years, not only has the country been plagued by corruption, but the business sector has also suffered significantly. We discussed these issues alongside the prospects for Bangladesh’s economic relations with Korea,” the BNP leader said.

He noted that Korea’s presence in Bangladesh is not driven by political objectives. “Rather, its main purpose is to enhance financial cooperation between the two nations.”

The BNP leader also said the principle of the Korea-Bangladesh relationship is rooted in the mutual benefits for the people of both countries.

“Following this policy, we have maintained strong ties in the past. We believe that if the people of Bangladesh entrust the BNP with the responsibility of governing the country, we will prioritize the interests of both Bangladeshis and Koreans as our foremost consideration to move forward on the path of development while maintaining the amity of both sides,” he said.
