A father and son, who sustained burn injuries in a fire from gas cylinder at the Ukhiya camp in Cox’s Bazar on May 12, 2022, died while undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) today (May 17, 2022).
The deceased were identified as Nur Alam (59) and Anwar Mostafa (12), reports our Cox’s Bazar staff correspondent quoting Md Naimul Haque, commander of Cox’s Bazar Armed Police Battalion-14.
The fire broke out at Nur Alam’s house at Ukhiya Rohingya Camp 1 (East), Block D/4 on May 12, 2022 when his wife left the gas cylinder on to light the stove with a match stick where Nur Alam, his wife, their two sons and two others from a nearby home sustained burn injuries.
Locals rescued them and sent them to nearby MSF Hospital from where three persons including Nur Alam and his son Anwar was shifted to CMCH.
Nur Alam and his son Anwar succumbed to their injuries today, said the APBn commander.
Steps were taken to send the bodies to Ukhiya Rohingya refugee camp after the autopsy, he added.
