A significant milestone in sustainable transportation was achieved recently, as the first electric vehicle (EV) charging station outside Dhaka was inaugurated in Jashore.
The station, located in the Khayertala area of Jessore city, represents a pivotal moment in the nation’s journey towards eco-friendly commuting options. Md Habibur Rahman, Senior Secretary to the Power Division, Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources officially launched the pilot EV charging station, a collaborative effort between Mulytic Energy Solutions Limited and West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited.
The event was attended by esteemed dignitaries, including Md. Mahbubur Rahman, Chairman of Bangladesh Power Development Board, S.M. Enamul Kabir, Additional Secretary (Coordination) Power Division, Engineer Mr. AHM Mohiuddin Ahmed, Managing Director of West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited (WZPDCL), Engineer Mr. Md. Shamsul Alam, Executive Director (Operation) of West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited (WZPDCL), and Mr. Md. Motiur Rahman, Project Director (Acting Executive Engineer) of West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited (WZPDCL).
Senior Secretary Habibur Rahman, addressing the inauguration ceremony as the chief guest, highlighted the groundbreaking nature of the project. He emphasized, “There was no charging station outside Dhaka to charge electric vehicles. The station has been launched on a pilot basis… In the future, maybe thousands of charging stations like petrol pumps will be opened by private enterprises all over the country. Bangladesh will enter a new era.”
Rahat Ahmed, Managing Director of Mulytic Energy, expressed his optimism about the expansion of electric vehicles and the positive impact on the environment. “The expansion of electric vehicles will reduce carbon emissions and pollution, which will play a very important role in saving the environment and taking a step towards a Smart Bangladesh.”
The event underscored the commitment to establishing a widespread network of EV charging stations across the country. The senior officials present at the inauguration ceremony emphasized the potential for an extensive and accessible charging infrastructure that aligns with the country’s vision for a sustainable and cleaner future. As the first step towards a nationwide EV charging network, this pilot station signifies a shift towards cleaner, greener transportation options, reducing carbon emissions and contributing to a healthier environment.
