Abdus Salam alias Tin Salam, former vice-president of Manikganj municipality unit Awami League, has been arrested in the case of vandalizing the district BNP office and setting it on fire during the anti-discrimination student movement in Manikganj.
A team of detective police detained him from his house in Asha Tower in Perra area of Manikganj town early Monday.
Police said during the anti-discrimination student movement on August 4, as per the instructions of former health minister Zahid Malek and the direct supports of the district Awami League president Advocate Golam Mohiuddin and general secretary Advocate Abdus Salam, the leaders and activists of the party and Jubo League, and AL-affiliated other organisations attacked the BNP office and set fire to it.
On September 25, Manikganj municipality unit’s BNP convener Advocate Murad Hossain filed a case with Manikganj Sadar Police Station against 150 unknown people, including former health minister Zahid Malek and 91 others of Awami League and AL-affiliated bodies.
SM Aman Ullah, officer-in-charge of Manikganj Sadar police station, said that after completing legal procedures, Tin Salam was produced before the court on Monday afternoon.
Tin Salam has businesses of construction materials, including tin and tiles in Manikganj town.
