The low-income people will not have to pay for Covid-19 tests in government-run laboratories during July,the Health Services Division said Thursday.
Following the coronavirus upsurge across Bangladesh, the need for Covid-19 testing has increased.
It has become difficult for low-income families to pay for several members for the test.
So, the government has directed the public healthcare institutions to make Covid-19 tests free for the low-income people, the Health Services Division said.
Bangladesh entered a week-long “strict lockdown” early Thursday to tackle the rising tide of Covid-19 cases and fatalities.
A record 143 people died of Covid-19 in the 24 hours until early Thursday, and 8,301 people tested positive for the virus.
There have been 921,559 infections and 14,646 coronavirus-related deaths reported in the country since the pandemic began.
Bangladesh has so far tested 664,0982 samples.
