A nine-year-old girl reportedly committed suicide on Tuesday as she was asked to take bath in Tangail’s Sokhipur upazila.
The dead was Lamia Akter, daughter of Lutfar Rahman, a resident of Zadabpur village under the upazila. She was a fourth grader at Zadabpur Govt Primary School.
According to the family of the girl, Lamia did not take a bath for the past one week due to cold weather, so her mother asked her to take a bath in the morning. Lamia’s mother scolded her for not taking bath. After some time, Lamia tried to commit suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling in her room.
Later, she was rescued and taken to Tangail Sheikh Hasina Medical College Hospital where doctors declared her dead.
