International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) chief prosecutor Md Tajul Islam said that the tribunal might be reconstituted by next week.
“We had a meeting with the law adviser in this regard last week. He (the legal adviser) assured us that the reconstitution (of the International Crimes Tribunal) would probably take place within the next week,” he said.
He said these in a press briefing in front of the extended building of the High Court Division around 2pm on Sunday. Prosecutors Gazi MH Tamim and BM Sultan Mahmud were present at that time.
In response to a question regarding the beginning of the judicial process, Tajul Islam said, “The court has not yet been constituted….Only six investigating officers are conducting the proceedings now….20 to 25 prosecutors are required for the prosecution. “We have only five so far, four have joined….Apart from this there is the issue of collecting evidences.”
“It is difficult to say the exact time frame for initiation of judicial process,”. However, the formal process of trial will begin following the formation of the tribunal, he added.
Earlier, the Chief Prosecutor visited Dhaka’s Combined Military Hospital (CMH) to see the injured in the quota reform movement and student uprising.
