Injured Hasan wants to play vital role in building future nation

Md Hasan, a student of class eight of Dhaka Ideal School, Faridabad at Jurain in the capital, who was injured in the anti-discrimination student movement on August 5, is passing painful days in the hospital.

Fifteen-year-old Hasan — undergoing treatment in ward number A of National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) Hospital — dreams of playing a vital role in building the future nation of the country. After completing his studies, he is determined to devote his life for the welfare and development of the country and its people.

Having excruciating pain in his leg, bullet shot Hasan looked depressed thinking about his future, as the doctors said that it will take several months for him to recover fully.

Hasan said he participated in the anti-discrimination student movement to save the country from a dictator government.

Recounting that fateful day, he said, he joined hundreds of students and people during a procession in Jatrabari area of the capital on August 5 at noon. The police intercepted them in front of the Jatrabari police station using a barricade. However, as they ignored the police order and started to move ahead, police opened fire at them. At that time, a bullet pierced his right leg below the knee and he immediately fell on the ground.

The army personnel, who were patrolling on the streets, rescued him from the spot and admitted him to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

Hasan said five rods were implanted in his leg after surgery at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital. He is still reeling from the pain and trauma of that day. Later, he was admitted to Pangu Hospital here for better treatment.

Hasan said that many people who were shot during the anti-discrimination student movement were admitted to different hospitals across the capital for treatment.

Deputy Director of NITOR, Dr. Md Badiuzzaman said people, who have been injured in the anti-discrimination student movement, are being treated with the highest priority in the hospital.

Hasan said his father Abdul Majeed is a rickshaw puller. Their village home is in Patuakhali. Currently his family is living in the capital’s Jurain area.

Hasan’s father Abdul Majeed said, “Although my son was injured while taking part in the movement, I am proud as he along with others has struggled to bring second liberation for the country.”

Abdul Majid hopes that his son will play a vital role in building the future nation.
