Nilphamari District Senior Benevolent Association organized a a discussion meeting at its office at Madhar Mor in the district on Sunday on the occasion of the International Elderly Day.
The meeting chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Sarkar Mohammad Raihan was addressed by former vice-president of the organization Anwarul Warech, Civil Surgeon Md. Hasibur Rahman, Chairman of Sadar Upazila Parishad Shahid Mahmud, Deputy Director of District Social Services Office Abu Bakkar Siddique, President of District Industries and Merchants Association Engineer SM Safiqul Alam Dablo and former Joint General Secretary of the organization Matiar Rahman also spoke on the occasion.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Sarkar Mohammad Raihan said the government has taken appropriate initiative for the protection of senior citizens. Elderly allowances, old age homes and health services are provided are provided to the needy people, so that an elderly person does not feel disappointed.
Aminur Rahman, convenor of the district branch of Bangladesh Elderly Philanthropy Association, said according to the commitment expressed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, this year’s Elderly Day was celebrated under the theme of protection of the rights of the elderly and responsibility from generation to generation.
