Besides, the Bangladesh Election Commission canceled the party’s registration as a political party of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in a writ petition of the High Court Division. The Appellate Division has upheld the judgment of the High Court Division, it was mentioned in the Gazette.
It also said that the government has ample evidence that Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and its affiliate Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir were directly and indirectly involved in the recent killings, destructive activities and terrorist activities. The government believes that all its affiliates, including Jamaat and Shibir, are involved in terrorist activities.
Therefore, by virtue of Section 18(1) of the ‘Anti-Terrorism Act, 2009’, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir, including all its affiliates, have been banned as political parties and organisations. As a result, Jamaat and all its affiliated organizations, including student camps, have been listed as prohibited entities in schedule-2 of this law, the notification said.
Earlier on Tuesday, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Haque told reporters that Jamaat-Shibir is being banned by Wednesday. Although the process took some time to complete, the notification was not issued on Wednesday.
