Journalist Raihan M Chowdhury dies

Raihan M Chowdhury, senior news consultant at The Financial Express (FE), died Saturday at a Dhaka city hospital. He was 57.

He breathed his last at Islami Bank Central Hospital around 2 pm, his family says. He had been suffering from liver cirrhosis.

He left behind his wife and two sons and a lot of admirers to mourn his death.

His first namaz-e-janaza will be held on the premises of the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity at 4:00pm and the second one at the premises of the National Press Club at 5:00pm.

After Isha prayers, his third namaz-e-janaza will be held on the premises of his residence in the city’s Shantinagar.

He will be buried at Shahjahanpur Graveyard.

Chowdhury had been in journalism for more than three decades.

He had been working for FE since 1996. He also worked as the FE’s senior business editor.

Chowdhury won the Dhaka Reporters Unity Best Reporting Award in 2006 and the Tokyo-based Developing Asia Journalism Awards for three years, 2009, 2010 and 2012.

During his long career, Mr Chowdhury visited many countries, including the USA, UK, Germany, Sweden, Austria, Spain, and Japan.

Prior to joining FE, he worked for the Morning Sun and The New Nation as sub-editor as well as reporter.
