Joy, Palak among 39 sued over leaking NID card information

A case has been filed against 39 people including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy and former state minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak on charge of leaking information from National Identity (NID) cards.

Muhammad Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner (DC, media) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), confirmed the matter saying aggrieved Mohammad Enamul Haque filed the case with Kafrul police station naming 19 people including Joy and Palak and 15 to 19 unnamed ones under Cyber Security Act and some sections under Penal Code.

According to the case statement, accused Joy, former ICT adviser to the Hasina, and Palak permitted one Digicon Global Services Ltd to do business with several farms by using the NID information without ensuring national and personal safety.

The NID information was sold to 182 organizations in home and abroad, it reads.

Insecurity has been created among people due to availability of the NID information to a third party, according to the case. The complainant also alleged that the accused embezzled Tk 20, 000 crore.
