On Sunday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Debabrata Biswas placed Shafiqul’s wife Mehzabin Moon, the prime accused, on 4-days remand.

Police recovered bodies of a middle-aged couple and their daughter from a house beside Muradpur High School Road in the capital’s Kadamtali police station around at around 11:30 am on Saturday. The deceased were identified as Masud Rana, 45, his wife Josna alias Moushumi, 40, and their daughter Jannat, 18. Police arrested Mehzabin Moon, the eldest daughter of the deceased.

Mehzabin told police that the murder happened due to a family quarrel. She was very angry with her family members. The affair was going for a long time but even after telling this matter to her parents, they did nothing. On the contrary, her mother took her sister Jannat’s side.

Before being arrested, Mehzabin called the emergency services hotline ‘999’ and threatened to kill her husband and daughter. Later on Saturday morning, the police rescued Mehzabin’s husband Shafiqul Islam and her daughter Marjan Tabassum Triptia with her first husband’s six-year-old from the house and admitted them to Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Hospital.

On Friday night, Mehzabin killed her parents and sister by mixing sleeping pills with food. “I killed three people,” she said, calling 999 at around 8am. She also threatened to kill her husband and children if the police did not come soon.
