Labor semester for Russian students at the Rooppur NPP

For the first time, a group of ten students from various Russian universities supported by Rosatom started their labor semester at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant construction site on July 10.

During the two-month-long semester, students will be actively involved in the processes of the NPP construction. In addition to the skills of construction and installation works, the students will gain experience in the preparation of catalogs, keeping records of design and working documentation, participating in the processes of inspection of equipment and materials to be supplied to the site, and learning the specific features of RPS engineering.

In near future, similar labor semester of student construction teams will begin at El-Dabaa NPP, Egypt; Kudankulam NPP, India. The first student construction team of Rosatom was formed during the implementation of Unit-2 of Rostov NPP, Russia in 2008 and included 25 people. The first foreign construction site for a student construction team was Belarus NPP in 2013.

In 2014, Rosatom and Russian Student Teams signed a cooperation agreement. During last 15 years, more than 17 thousand students had been involved in nuclear industry projects at 29 construction sites, of which 22 in Russia and seven are overseas including Turkey, Belarus, China, India, and Egypt.

Rooppur NPP has two units of Generation 3+ VVER-1200 reactors with a total capacity of 2,400MWe and is being constructed under the Russian design that fully complies with all the international safety requirements. The life cycle of the reactors is 60 years with the possibility of extension of the service life for another 20 years. The project is implemented by the Rosatom Engineering Division.
