Major and captain of JMB remanded for 5 days

A Dhaka court has granted five-day remand to two active members of the banned militant group JMB.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Dhiman Chandra Mandal handed the five-day remand t accused are Kawsar Mia alias Major Osama and Abdullah Al Mamun alias Captain David Killer On Monday.

Earlier, the investigating officer of the case Golam Mortuza of the Bomb Disposal Unit of the Counter Terrorism Unit produced the accused before the court with a 10-day remand prayer in the anti-terrorism law case filed with the Pallabi Police Station.

The remand application says Mohammad Kawsar Hossain alias Major Osama had been serving as the trainer of the military branch of the new JMB for a long time. He used to train other members of the military wing of the organization on how to make bombs via online and offline contact. He was in regular contact with Mahadi Hasan alias Abu Abbas Al Bangali, the Amir of the new JMB in Bangladesh. Major and Captain are the titles of the military branch of the JMB.

Police arrested three active members of the group Sabbir Ahmed alias Bamsi Barracks alias Major Khalid, Rabiul Islam alias Osman and Naeem Mia with explosives on July 7 from a building under construction next to the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in the capital’s Pallabi. Based on the information of another accused named Sabbir Ahmed, the police arrested Kawsar Mia from Ruhitpur area under Keraniganj police station of Dhaka district on July 11 at around 1.30 pm. He said in an immediate interrogation that Abdullah Al Mamun alias David Killer, who was involved in the case, was currently staying in Uttar Jatrabari. Abdullah Al Mamun was arrested from Jatrabari on the basis of that information.

The investigating officer further said that the accused are active members of the banned militant organization. During preliminary interrogation, Kawsar Mia confirmed that their organization had a hideout in Kazipara area under Bandar police station in Narayanganj district. Gaining information from Abdullah Al Mamun, three powerful IEDs and four remote controls and a large quantity of bomb-making equipment were recovered from the house next to the mosque of Miashab’s house in Noagaon village of Araihazar in Narayanganj district. Sabbir Ahmed, who was remanded in the case, was one of the masterminds of the bomb-making project and had been serving as the regional commander of the Mymensingh region.
