A Dhaka court on Tuesday granted bail to Nasir Uddin Mahmud and his associate Tuhin Siddiqui Omi in an attempted rape and murder case filed by actress Pori Moni.
Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Shahjadi Tahmida granted them bail on a bond of Tk 5,000 after police produced the duo before the court on completion of their remand.
On Wednesday, June 23, the court of Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Rajib Hasan placed them on five-day remand. Following the remand, the investigating officer of the case, Savar Model Police Station Inspector (Operations) Kamal Hossain, on Tuesday requested the accused to be kept in jail.
On the other hand, Dhaka Bar Association President Abdul Baten, General Secretary Hazrat Ali and Imrul Kawser and some other lawyers applied for bail. However, Dhaka District Public Prosecutor Sheikh Hemayet Uddin and Additional Public Prosecutor Anwarul Kabir Babul opposed the bail.
The court granted bail to both of the accused till the next due date. The next date in the case is set for July 8. However, Nasir Uddin Mahmud and Tuhin Siddiqui Omi cannot walk out of jail as they are yet to get bail in the case filed against them with Airport Police Station under Narcotics Control Act.
