No central bank official involved in question leak: BB

No central bank employee is involved with the recent question paper leak in the recruitment tests for five state-owned banks, says the Bangladesh Bank.

The central bank has clarified its stance on the matter through a statement, saying that the media reports on the matter were not entirely true.

On November 6, the recruitment tests for five state-owned banks for the posts of officer (cash) was organized by Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST).

However, several pictures of the answers to the exam questions went viral on social media before the exams ended prompting many examinees to demand the cancellation of the exams.

AUST has been blacklisted and will be unable to organize such exams in the future, the statement said.

The central bank also questioned the reports published by the media outlets, saying that the published information against a deputy governor without his name being mentioned was baseless and defamatory.

Even though Bangladesh had initially remained quiet over the allegations of irregularities and question paper leak against the Bangladesh Bankers’ Selection Committee, on November 12, they scrapped the November 6 tests.

According to the statement, the bank has also suspended two of its officials – Joint Director Abdullah Al Mabud and Md Almas Ali – over the irregularities reported regarding another recruitment test carried out on June 13.

The allegations are still under investigation and administrative action will be initiated as per the findings, the statement said.
