No threat to Metro Rail, but scanners, archways will be installed: DMP

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP)’s additional police commissioner (Crimes and Operations) Dr. Kh. Mahid Uddin has said there is no information or threat to attacking the metro rail. However, there will be handle detectors.

“We request the authorities concerned to install luggage scanners and archways. We hope that necessary steps will be taken as soon as possible,” he said replying to queries of reporters after inspecting the security systems of Metro Rail from Uttara to Agargaon in the capital on Thursday (December 21).

Mahid Uddin said, “You know that Metro Rail police’s organogram has been prepared where there are now a DIG (deputy inspector general of police) and his workforce. Besides, the Police Headquarters have provided additional manpower. At the beginning, the DMP was in charge of its security. A total of 132 policemen of DMP now discharge their duties in cooperation of Metro Rail police. In sequel to it, we have inspected the Metro Rail’s security systems today. We have witnessed everything. We will chalk out a plan discussing the security related matters.

Asked about the new addition to the metro rail, Mahid Uddin said, “Closed circuit cameras are not enough. They need to be monitored and kept under vigilance. If anything unusual is found in the vigilance, it needs to be reported immediately. In order to do that, all security workers should carry wireless sets which we noticed abroad. We should have handle detectors. We request to install luggage scanners. We request the authorities concerned to take necessary steps immediately to install luggage scanners and archways.

At the same time, he requested the metro rail authorities to install a machine which can monitor explosives. “All kinds of security measures should be taken at a key installation of the transportation. The DMP has been trying to keep everyone happy in the capital,” he said.
