A citizen cannot vote with a national identity card, unless the person is 18 years of age or above.
Director (Public Relations) of Election Commission (EC) Secretariat Shariful Alam said, “The Election Commission issues national identity cards to Bangladeshi citizens aged 18 and above as well as 16 and 17-year-olds, but they are not voters.”
He said, only those who are Bangladeshi citizens, eighteen years of age or above ( citizens born on or before January 1, 2005), residents of the respective constituencies/constituencies and whose names are included in the voter list can vote in the 12th National Assembly elections.
Those who cannot vote are -if not included in the electoral roll (citizens born after January 1, 2005), persons declared denaturalized by a court, persons convicted by a special tribunal and persons convicted by an international crime tribunal.
