NSU holds seminar on Vienna Convention

The Department of Law at North South University (NSU) held a seminar on “Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties – Section 3: Interpretation of Treaties (§ 31-33)” on February 10, 2025. This event took place at the Moot Court Room (NAC 616) and brought together students, academics, and legal professionals interested in international law and the interpretation of treaties.

The keynote speaker for the session was Mr. Håkon Arald Gulbrandsen, Ambassador of Norway. Prof. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor of North South University, was the session chair, and Prof. Abdur Rob Khan, Treasurer and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (IC) at North South University, was the special invitee.

The Chair of the Department of Law, Dr. Ishtiaque Ahmed, Associate Professor & Barrister-at-Law, delivered the introductory remarks. In his opening address, the Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Md. Rizwanul Islam, expressed gratitude to the distinguished guests for gracing the occasion with their presence and for sharing their expertise with the attendees.

Håkon Arald Gulbrandsen generously shared his perspective on the interpretation of treaties, specifically focusing on Section 3: Interpretation of Treaties (§ 31-33). The Session Chair, Prof. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, acknowledged the valuable insights on international law presented during the seminar. The Special Invitee, Prof. Abdur Rob Khan, commended the Department of Law for organizing such an academic event.

During the Q&A segment, faculty members and students engaged with the guest speaker on various issues concerning the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties and its interpretation.

The seminar concluded with a Crest Handover Ceremony, where the keynote speaker was presented with a token of appreciation, followed by a group photograph with all attendees to commemorate the occasion.
