NSU hosts photo exhibition, Academic Exchange at Kathmandu University

A distinguished team of faculty members from North South University’s Department of Architecture, alongside students from the Art and Photography Club (NSUAPC), recently visited Nepal to host the 13th International Photography Exhibition and participate in an academic discourse at Kathmandu University. This team included Dr. Saiful Islam (Professor), Mujtaba Ahsan (Associate Professor), Shahriar Iqbal Raj (Assistant Professor), and A K M Saleh Ahmed Anik (Lecturer). Each member brought a unique area of expertise to this international exchange, enriching the depth of engagement planned for the visit.

The International Inter-University Photography Exhibition (IIUPE), a highly anticipated global event, was held at the Siddhartha Art Gallery in Kathmandu from November 8-9, 2024. This year’s exhibition achieved record-breaking participation, with nearly 450 student photographers from 50 countries submitting an impressive 18,000 entries. The diverse perspectives and styles showcased underscored the event’s global reach and cultural variety. The exhibition was inaugurated by U.S.-based photographer, author, and monologist Jeff Greenwald, along with visual artist Sarah Nelson.

On November 10, the faculty team led an academic discourse at the Department of Architecture, Kathmandu University. This discourse featured presentations and knowledge-sharing sessions, including a talk on Bio-Coding by Mr. Anik, which generated keen interest by exploring innovative intersections between human, biological, and artificial intelligence in architectural and environmental design. Other faculty members shared insights from their respective fields, fostering a robust academic exchange with students and faculty at Kathmandu University.

The discourse offered an opportunity for the universities to strengthen intellectual connections and discuss the future of architecture in a global context. Additionally, Dr. Bindu Shrestha, Head of the Department of Architecture at Kathmandu University, and Shahriar Iqbal Raj, Chair of the Department of Architecture at North South University, explored potential avenues for institutional collaboration. Their discussions focused on fostering partnerships, facilitating faculty and student exchanges, promoting joint research projects, strengthening academic ties between North South University and Kathmandu University, and expanding opportunities for cross-border learning and collaboration.
